Christi Heaton, with 35 years of service, has been honored as Berkeley County Schools’ Champion of Education. Her career began as an English and French teacher at Hedgesville High and transitioned into a role as a school counselor. She later advanced to become the Director of Academic Counseling.
Heaton’s impact in education is marked by her strong advocacy for students and staff as well as her dedication to enhancing school counseling programs across Berkeley County. Her efforts have ensured that Berkeley County Schools exceed state standards for school counseling.
“Mrs. Heaton is a true role model, supporting and empowering school counselors while ensuring BCS meets and exceeds state standards for school counseling,” reads a statement from the district. Furthermore, attributes such as “her passion, attention to detail, and organizational skills have been instrumental in building the strong, comprehensive school counseling program we’re proud to have today” were highlighted in the award citation.
The community expressed their gratitude for Heaton’s remarkable contribution to education and wished her well in her retirement, acknowledging her role in championing the future of education in Berkeley County.
