The Hedgesville High School Theater Department is presenting “The Lady Pirates of Captain Bree” this weekend. The play follows the story of Captain Jennings, portrayed by Nathaniel Weber, whose ship is taken over by pirates led by Captain Bree, played by Aaralyn Hahn. The cast also includes Abigail Morris as Julia Prescott and Roxxi Newman as Madam Prescott.

Newman shared how the school’s drama teacher, Kelli Cooper, helped her improve her posture to fit her character through various exercises. “Madam Prescott does not slouch,” she said, elaborating on her efforts to embody her role.

The cast members discussed how the show helped them gain confidence. Morris mentioned that her character’s journey of taking charge inspired her, and Hahn noted that playing Captain Bree made her more confident. “Playing Capt. Bree has helped me build more confidence in myself,” Hahn shared. Weber and Newman also found personal growth through their roles, with Weber expressing an improvement in his acting skills.

The performance features a number of combat scenes, songs, and dances. Newman revealed her struggle with posture and confidence, which she has worked on throughout her rehearsals. The show started on Thursday and continues today with performances scheduled at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are available at $10 for students and $15 for adults.
