Musselman High School has inaugurated The Bucey Cafe, a new addition to its Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. This initiative aims to provide students with practical experience in cooking and baking. The project was initially started by Susan Bucey and later continued by her former students, Rachel Nauman and Allyson McClintock.
The cafe’s creation involved transforming the front office into a bakery, thanks to the efforts of vocational teacher Gregory Engle and his CTE students who assisted with construction. Principal Alicia Riggleman expressed gratitude during the opening ceremony, stating, “Today is a special day for Musselman High School, as we celebrate the grand opening of our bakery — an exciting new chapter for our school and our students.”
Berkeley County Schools Superintendent Ryan Saxe also addressed attendees, emphasizing the importance of this development in creating more workforce opportunities for students across Berkeley County. He remarked on entering a new era for local schools.
Guests at the event were treated to various homemade items such as sourdough sandwiches, pepperoni rolls, truffles, cookies, brownies, cheesecake, and maple bacon cupcakes. Esabeya Marks, a student managing the cafe, highlighted her enjoyment in seeing people appreciate their offerings: “It makes me happy to see everyone smile,” she said.
Rachel Nauman praised her students’ growth from feeling overwhelmed to becoming confident leaders. She emphasized fostering kindness within the workplace: “This is their home,” Nauman stated. “Students gain confidence in themselves and become leaders.”
