Democratic incumbent Michael Caputo has won his re-election bid for House District 50, defeating Republican opponent Rebecca Polis.

Caputo expressed gratitude on his Facebook page on Nov. 5.

“I am truly humbled to be elected as your State Senator. We live in difficult times, but I promise you I’m going to go to Charleston and fight like hell for you and your family.

“To everyone who has supported this campaign, THANK YOU. Tina & I truly cannot thank you enough. To those who may have supported another candidate, I am still going to work for you in the State Senate and I would be happy to talk with you anytime. There is a lot of work to be done, but for now all I will say is... THANK YOU, my door will always be open to you.”

Polis used her Facebook page to concede and thank all who supported her.

“Thank you to every voter who cast their support for me!  I want to thank both the Monongalia and Marion County Republican Executive Committees and all who helped me in the Senate race! Your giving of time, energy, finances, prayers  and encouragement were greatly appreciated.  I met so many wonderful people and experienced what I feel is the real giving heart of West Virginians.  I considered it an honor to have won the primary and to have had the opportunity to run in this general election!  Again, thank you to all!”
