Shepherd Men Handle Edinboro

Junior guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) scored a team-high 18 points to lead five starters in double figures as Shepherd (4-3, 1-1 PSAC) to an 80-61 win over Edinboro (2-5, 0-2 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at Shepherd on Saturday night. 

Jordan hit on 7-of-12 field goals with a 2-of-3 effort from three-point range. He was 2-of-3 from the foul line. Jordan also added a team-high seven rebounds and three assists. 

Junior guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) added 16 points, sophomore guard Aidan Hughley (York, Pa./York Suburban) had 15, while senior guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) and sophomore guard Carson Poffenberger (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) each had 10.

Kierell Green scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Fighting Scots. Niam Miller added 13 points. 

Shepherd connected on 55.8 percent (29-52) of its field goals with a 48.3 percent (14-29) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 80 percent (8-10) of their free throws. 

Shepherd had a 35-28 advantage at halftime. 

The Rams went on an 8-0 run midway through the second half to open up a 50-32 lead at the 14:24 mark. Edinboro cut the lead to eight on a three-pointer by Miller with 13:17 left. Shepherd got a layup by Jordan at the 12:43 mark to take a 52-42 advantage and would hold a double-digit lead the rest of the way. 

Edinboro shot 37 percent (20-54) from the floor with a 40 percent (10-25) effort from beyond the arc. The Fighting Scots hit on 87.6 percent (11-14) of their free throws. 

Shepherd had a 30-29 edge in rebounds. The Rams forced 12 turnovers and committed 12. 

The Rams return to action on Dec. 12 when they travel to Virginia Union for a 7 p.m. contest.
