Kristina Donza scored a team-high 17 points to lead Slippery Rock (6-1, 1-0 PSAC) to a 73-57 win over Shepherd University (0-6, 0-1 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Friday night.
Sophomore guard/forward Sydney Bolles (Elkview, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Rams. She connected on 8-of-13 field goals with a 3-of-5 effort from three-point range. She was 3-of-5 from the foul line. Bolles also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
Freshman guard Peyton Grant (Plymouth, Maine/Dexter Regional) added 14 points, while junior guard Kendal Haggerty (Frederick, Md./Urbana/CCBC) tossed in 11. Sophomore guard Deaira Hairston (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) handed out a game-high five assists.
Bella Long added 14 points and Isabellah Middleton had 13 for the Rock. Kennedy Middleton and Arinna Mitchell each grabbed a team-high eight boards.
Slippery Rock had a 40-25 lead at halftime.
Shepherd shot 31.1 percent (19-61) from the floor with a 29.7 percent (11-37) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 72.7 percent (8-11) of their free throws.
Slippery Rock shot 33.7 percent (28-83) from the floor with a 25.6 percent effort (10-39) from three-point range. The Rock shot 77.8 percent (7-9) from the foul line.
Shepherd had a 51-48 edge on the boards. The Rams forced 11 turnovers and committed 26.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Edinboro for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
