Shepherd Men Fall to Pitt-Johnstown
John Paul Kromka scored a game-high 24 points to lead Pitt-Johnstown (8-3, 4-1 PSAC) to a 79-62 win over Shepherd (6-5, 3-2 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Friday evening.
Junior guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) led the Rams with 19 points. He connected on 6-of-14 shots from the floor with a 3-of-7 effort from three-point range. He was 4-for-6 from the foul line. He also handed out a team-high five assists.
Senior guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) had 13 points and six rebounds, while sophomore guard Carson Poffenberger (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) scored 11 points.
Jared Jakubick added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Mountain Cats. Joe Batt handed out a game-high six assists.
Shepherd connected on 32.7 percent (18-55) of its field goals with a 32.4 percent (11-34) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 75 percent (15-20) of their free throws.
Pitt-Johnstown shot 60.4 percent (32-53) from the floor with a 56.3 percent (9-16) effort from beyond the arc. The Mountain Cats hit on 75 percent (6-8) of their free throws.
UPJ had a 43-24 advantage at halftime.
Pitt-Johnstown had a 35-27 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced seven turnovers and committed six.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host Lock Haven on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
