Shepherd Men Fall to Lock Haven in Overtime
Eli Washington scored a game-high 24 points to lead Lock Haven (9-2, 5-1 PSAC) to a 77-74 overtime win over Shepherd (6-6, 3-3 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday night.
Junior guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) led the Rams with 23 points. He connected on 7-of-20 shots from the floor with a 3-of-9 effort from three-point range. He was 6-of-7 from the foul line.
Senior guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) added 21 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore guard Aidan Hughley (York, Pa./York Suburban) tossed in 11 points. Freshman forward Stefan Marcelle (Washington, D.C./Georgetown Prep) grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
Dymir Montague added 16 points and Jalen Gorham had 13 for the Bald Eagles.
Shepherd connected on 37.9 percent (22-58) of its field goals with a 27.3 percent (9-33) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 87.5 percent (21-24) of their free throws.
Lock Haven shot 45.8 percent (27-59) from the floor with a 40 percent (10-25) effort from beyond the arc. The Bald Eagles hit on 72.2 percent (13-18) of their free throws.
The game was tied at 28-all at halftime.
Lock Haven used a 10-1 run in the final minute of regulation to erase a nine-point Shepherd lead and force overtime. Montague and Gorham each hit three-pointers and Washington added a layup and a pair of free throws during the rally. Lock Haven outscored Shepherd, 9-6, in overtime to gain the win.
Shepherd had a 41-32 rebounding advantage. The Rams forced 17 turnovers and committed 20.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Millersville for a 3 p.m. contest.
