The City of Martinsburg Is Seeking Volunteers from among Its Residents

The City of Martinsburg is seeking volunteers from among its residents to fill immediate vacancies in the following Boards and Commissions. Interested parties should submit the online form and attach a resume.

Board of Zoning Appeals

The City of Martinsburg is seeking one (1) alternate member to fill a vacancy on the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA). Members of the BZA are appointed for three (3) year terms. BZA members have the power to hear and decide on Administrate Appeals, Special Exceptions and Variance requests, under the guidelines of Article IX of the Martinsburg Zoning Ordinance. The BZA meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 6:30 PM.

Human Relations Committee

The City of Martinsburg is seeking two (2) members to fill a vacancy on the Human Relations Committee (HRC). HRC members serve two (2) year terms. These citizens are selected because they reflect the diversity of the population of the City of Martinsburg and because of their knowledge and expertise in the areas which may be the subject of equal opportunity and affirmative action. The purpose of the Committee is to advise the City on equal opportunity and affirmative action issues and in matters relating to overall community relations. The Committee will also monitor and review the implementation of the plan and keep the Mayor, City Council and City officials advised on an on-going basis. The Human Relations Committee meets on an as-needed, generally quarterly, basis.

Code Appeals Board

The City of Martinsburg is seeking one (1) member to fill a vacancy on the Code Appeals Board (CAB). One member must be an architect, or structural or civil engineer. The CAB hears all appeals relative to the enforcement of all codes set forth in Section 1711.01 of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Martinsburg, and votes to reverse or affirm the decision appealed from, in whole or in part.

Martinsburg Housing Authority

The Martinsburg Housing Authority is seeking (1) member to fill a vacancy. The Martinsburg Housing Authority provides stable, quality affordable housing opportunities for low- and moderate-income families throughout the local community. Through the provision of public housing apartments and the management of Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers, the Martinsburg Housing Authority serves more than 250 low-income families and individuals, while supporting healthy communities.

Martinsburg-Berkeley County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau

The City of Martinsburg is seeking one member to fill a vacancy on the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. The CVB is concerned with enhancing the economic vitality of the local community by promoting the industry of tourism. Meetings are generally on the 3rd Wednesday of each month in the daytime hours.

Shade Tree Commission

The City of Martinsburg is seeking one member to fill a vacancy on the Shade Tree Commission. The Shade Tree Commission holds full power and authority over all trees, plants and shrubs located within street rights-of-way, parks and public places of the City. The Commission shall have the right to plant, prune, maintain and remove trees, plants and shrubs within the public right-of-way, Public Square, and other publicly owned grounds as may be necessary to ensure public safety or to preserve or enhance the symmetry and beauty of such public lands. The Shade Tree Commission meets as needed.

Roundhouse Authority

The City of Martinsburg is seeking one member to fill a City vacancy on the Roundhouse Authority. Created by an Act of the West Virginia Legislature in 1999, the Berkeley County Roundhouse Authority is a public corporation. It is charged with preservation and redevelopment of the Martinsburg Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Shops, a 19th century maintenance hub strategically situated between Baltimore and Cumberland, Md. The site was designated West Virginia's 16th National Historic Landmark in 2003. Roundhouse Authority meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM.
