Shepherd Men Top Shippensburg, Rams Clinch Spot in PSAC Tournament

Junior guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) scored a game-high 23 points to lead Shepherd (14-13, 11-10 PSAC) to a 60-55 win over Shippensburg in PSAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday night. The win allowed Shepherd to clinch the sixth seed in the PSAC East. 

McClain-Corley also topped the Rams with nine rebounds. He connected on 10-of-22 field goals with a 3-of-8 effort from three-point range. He was 2-of-2 from the foul line. 

Junior guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) added 12 points, seven rebounds, and a game-high six assists. 

Carlos Carter had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead Shippensburg. Ty Crespo had 11 points and Denzel Figueroa added 10. 

Shippensburg had a 30-29 lead at halftime. 

Shepherd grabbed the lead for good at 53-51 on a three-pointer by McClain-Corley with 3:28 left to play. Shepherd built a six-point lead before Carter hit a layup for the Raiders with 42 seconds to cut the lead to 57-53. Jordan hit 3-of-4 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Shepherd connected on 37.5 percent (21-56) of its field goals with a 44.4 percent (8-18) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 83.3 percent (10-12) of their free throws. 

Shippensburg shot 37.5 percent (21-56) from the floor with a 16.7 percent (3-18) effort from beyond the arc. The Raiders hit on 71.4 percent (10-14) of their free throws. 

Shepherd had a 38-35 rebounding edge. The Rams forced 11 turnovers and committed 12. 

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Kutztown for a 3 p.m. contest.
