A school counselor from Berkeley County, West Virginia, has been recognized for her dedication to students. Jodie Williams, a counselor at Opequon Elementary School, has been named the 2025 School Counselor of the Year. Her efforts in supporting students both inside and outside the classroom have earned her this accolade.

Williams emphasized the role of school counselors by stating, "We are here for you. We are your community. We spend most of their waking hours together with them in the school environment." She added that counselors are available to assist with academic work, social and emotional issues, and career planning: "But we are here. We are part of that village. That’s what we’re here for."

The award was announced during National School Counseling Week, which recognizes the contributions of school counselors to student success.
