Seanice Lyons scored a game-high 13 points to lead Bowie State (2-1) to a 78-52 win over Shepherd University (0-3) in women's basketball action at Bowie State on Wednesday evening.
Junior guard Kendal Haggerty (Frederick, Md./Urbana/CCBC) scored a team-high 12 points to pace the Rams. She connected on 5-of-8 field goals with a 2-of-5 effort from beyond the arc.
Junior guard Madison Mertz (Maugansville, Md./North Hagerstown) added 10 points and five rebounds and freshman guard Peyton Grant (Plymouth, Maine/Dexter Regional) tossed in eight points. Senior forward Cara Minor (Hundred, W.Va./North Marion) had seven points and seven rebounds.
Robin Howard and Anni Harris each had nine points for the Bulldogs.
Bowie State had a 37-22 lead at halftime.
Shepherd shot 37 percent (17-46) from the floor with a 33 percent (7-21) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 64.7 percent (11-17) of their free throws.
Bowie State shot 32.6 percent (28-86) from the floor with a 20 percent effort (5-25) from three-point range. The Bulldogs shot 70.8 percent (17-24) from the foul line.
The Bulldogs had a 55-38 rebounding advantage. The Rams forced eight turnovers and committed 25.
The Rams return to action next Tuesday when they host Lincoln University for an 11 a.m. contest.
