2023 National Merit Semifinalists

Approximately one-third of the national high scorers on the PSAT/NMSQT, are notified that they have qualified as semifinalists. To be considered for a National Merit Scholarship, semifinalists must advance to finalist standing in the competition by meeting high academic standards, as well as demonstrating community involvement, strong work ethic, and extracurricular pursuits. Additionally, the student must be recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT scores that align with the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.

Oldham County Schools students who have earned National Merit Semifinalist distinction include:

  • Emily Loleng (North Oldham High School)
  • Madeline Brittian (Oldham County High School)
  • Tabitha Crain (Oldham County High School)
  • Sarah Freeland (Oldham County High School)
  • Ian Hobbs (Oldham County High School)
  • Joshua Oberholtzer (Oldham County High School)
  • Elizabeth Scheetz (Oldham County High School)
  • Ty Clayton (South Oldham High School)
  • Qidi Wang (South Oldham High School, early graduate 2022)
