Berkeley Heights Elementary School's Parent Teacher Association (PTA) held a Veterans Day event on Tuesday, allowing students to invite veterans from their families for a breakfast gathering. The occasion was aimed at recognizing the service of veterans and fostering family connections.
Julia Linaburg, PTA president, organized the event with other PTA leaders. "This is one of my favorite events we have put together," Linaburg stated. "I love seeing families come together and see the kids smiling as they talk with their grandparent, aunt, uncle, mom or dad."
The event saw over 30 veterans in attendance. Supported by Roach Energy, City National Bank, and faculty members, the PTA offered a full breakfast that included eggs, bacon, mini muffins, pastries, and more.
Post-breakfast activities included two school assemblies featuring performances by the Martinsburg High School Good Times Show Choir. Veterans were acknowledged individually and given goodie bags to take home.
During each assembly, classes performed songs expressing their love for the United States. The school's new mascot, Berkeley the Badger, made an appearance to greet students.
Linaburg emphasized the significance of such events for showing gratitude to community heroes while strengthening family bonds. Since its inception three years ago, the PTA has focused on connecting people and supporting students.
"This event gives the children a chance to spend time with their family," Linaburg explained. "It helps them understand what the veterans go through and the sacrifice they give in order to protect this country."
The PTA aims to continue facilitating opportunities that connect people and build community ties at Berkeley Heights Elementary.
