Friends of Music has awarded a $400 grant to Musselman High School to aid in acquiring new curriculum books for its symphonic band, which comprises 124 students. The books are part of the "Sound Innovations for Ensemble Development" series published by Alfred Music. They include 399 exercises tailored for advanced concert band students and feature over 70 chorales composed by prominent contemporary composers.
Band director Michael Knepper commented on the value of the book, stating, "This book is a valuable resource in helping students grow in their understanding and abilities as ensemble musicians." He further explained that the exercises are organized by key and offer a range of intermediate to advanced difficulty levels. "Where possible, several exercises in the same category are provided to allow variety while accomplishing the same goals. Its flexibility makes it perfect for our large ensemble rehearsals, lessons, and studio use," Knepper added.
