Friends of Music has provided a $300 grant to Spring Mills Middle School. The funding will be used to purchase a 500-watt Hartke Kickback bass amplifier for the school's band program.
Jordan English, the band's director, applied for the grant. He believes the new equipment will enable students to explore various music styles and techniques while giving bass players more prominence in the band.
"This new amp is a game-changer for our program," English stated. "It opens up many possibilities for our students to dive deeper into jazz and other styles of music. They now have the tools to experience and perform with greater clarity and precision."
The Spring Mills Middle School Jazz Ensemble is in its second year. The group is preparing to perform at local jazz festivals and events such as Christmas in the Park at War Memorial Park in Martinsburg.
English expressed gratitude towards Friends of Music, saying, "Thank you, Friends of Music for continuously supporting our young musicians!"
